Yummy Homemade Burger Buns

Yummy Homemade Burger Buns! Yes, these are more work than buying them but the taste is oh so much better. They take time but we’re not talking sourdough here! We break-down all the steps in this week’s video.

Instructions

  1. Add yeast, ½ cup flour, and warm water to a stand-mixer. Mix until incorporated then let rest for 10 minutes allowing the yeast to bloom.
  2. Add butter, sugar, salt, and 1 egg beaten to the yeast and mix. Once combined, gradually add remaining flour. Mix for a few minutes then replace with the dough hook and knead for 6 minutes.
  3. Form a dough ball, lightly coat in oil and cover with a damp cloth. Let rest for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down dough and knead for a few minutes. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough until you have a sheet 10x15 inches large and about ½ inch thick.
  5. Cut into 10 equal-sized pieces.
  6. Form small disks by stretching and folding the dough. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet seam side down. Lightly flour and cover for 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  8. Mix milk with an egg.
  9. Coat each bun with the egg wash. Top with sesame seeds.
  10. Place in the oven for 15 minutes.
  11. Remove and let cool for 20 minutes before cutting.
  12. Buns freeze well so make a double batch!
